LinkMesh vs Grafana Fleet Management
LinkMesh vs Grafana Fleet Management
Grafana Fleet Management provides remote configuration and health monitoring for collector fleets as part of Grafana Cloud. Since remote management of upstream OpenTelemetry Collectors went generally available on 8 July 2026, it manages both Grafana Alloy (remotecfg) and upstream OpenTelemetry Collectors (OpAMP). If your backend is the Grafana/LGTM stack, it is a natural, well-integrated fit.
The two now manage much the same collectors, so the honest difference is not what is managed but where the control plane runs and who holds the fleet metadata. Grafana Fleet Management is delivered as a Grafana Cloud feature; their documentation notes it can be used with self-managed or on-premises setups where a connection to Grafana Cloud is possible. LinkMesh runs as a self-hosted control plane with fleet metadata staying in your own infrastructure, and routes to any OpenTelemetry-compatible destination. If your collectors can reach Grafana Cloud, Fleet Management is a capable and well-integrated choice. LinkMesh is for the case where they cannot, or must not.

Choose Grafana Fleet Management if…
- Your backend is Grafana Cloud or the LGTM stack, and you want fleet management tightly integrated with it.
- You want fleet management bundled with the backend you already pay for.
- Your collectors can reach Grafana Cloud, and you want fleet management without running a control plane yourself.
Choose LinkMesh if…
- Your environment is airgapped, or a mandate keeps fleet metadata in-house — no connection to a vendor cloud.
- You want the control plane self-hosted and independent of any single backend or cloud.
- You route telemetry to backends other than Grafana, or to several at once.
- You want per-Collector pricing rather than backend-coupled subscription usage.
